Teni became popular in the entertainment industry with her freestyles

on Instagram. Another moment of spotlight was when her single

“Fargin†became a hit. The song spread fast across Nigeria and was

loved by many. Even before hitting the spotlight, Teniola has written

and released a good number of hit songs. She was reported to have

written one of ‘Davido’s hit song “Like That†. Teni is

particularly loved by most Nigerians because she is different. She

does not subscribe to the stereotype of celebrities whose lives seem

fake. Teni is also known as Teni Makanaki.

The full name of the popular singer is Teniola Apata. She is a

Nigerian singer, songwriter, rapper, and entertainer. She in fact

refers to herself as Teni, the entertainer. Teni was born on the 12th

of December, 1992 in Lagos State, South Western part of Nigeria. She

is currently 28 years old. However, she hails from Ekiti state. Teni

started doing music at the tender age of two, although being from an

education loving family. Teni had her secondary school education at

the Apata memorial high school. Here, she was a member of the school

band where she performed for several distinguished Nigerians including

the former Military Administrator (Governor) in Lagos State, Muhammed

Buba Marwa; Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN and former President

Olusegun Obasanjo. After her secondary school education, she proceeded

to the US to study Pharmacy. She pulled out of Pharmacy school and

then proceeded to the American Intercontinental University where she

graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

Family life



Teni is the younger sister of the popular Afro-house Nigerian singer

Niniola. Teni always expresses the great love she has for her family

and says she finds happiness just being with them.



Teni’s name began ringing on people’s lips with her freestyles on

Instagram. She also began hitting the spotlight when her single

“Fargin†became a hit. The song spread across and was loved by

most Nigerian music lovers. Teni’s music is influenced by a wide

range of music types such as folk, juju, fuji, and apala music. Her

first single “Amen†made influenced by the likes of King Wasiu

Ayinde, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Osita Osadebe, and Dolly

Parton. Teniola has written and released a good number of hit since

she came into limelight. Teni used to be an artist under ‘the Magic

Finger’, a record label owned by top producer “Shizzi†.



However, in the year 2017, Teni got signed into Dr. Dolor

Entertainment, which is her current record label. Teni once said that

are hobbies are traveling and swimming, playing basketball, and making

music.

more. On the 3rd of May, 2019, she released the video for “Sugar

Mummy†and on the 14th of June 2019, she released a new single

Career and Awards



Teni released her debut single “Amen†when she was still with

Magic Fingers Records. She left Magic Fingers Records and signed with

Dr. Dolor Entertainment after which she started gaining prominence

after releasing the single “Fargin†in September 2017. She made

her breakthrough after releasing the hit singles “Askamaya†,

“Case†and “Uyo Meyo†.



One of her songs, “Askamaya†which is a remix of one of the tracks

in Sir Shina Peters’ album, “Omoge Loke Loke.’’ was ranked

15th on MTV Base’s Top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks at the end of 2018.
