Ingredients needed to make Air Freshener



Caustic soda also known as Sodium Hydroxide to serve as soluble

substance- 1 spoon

Sodium Laurel Sulfate to serve as Emulsifier- 0.5%



Glycerine or Propylene Glycol to serve as Filler or Extender- 10%

Boric Acid or Methyl Paraben to serve as Preservative: 1%



Fragrance such as Lemon or Lavender that aromatizes the mixture and

allows for a pleasant smell: As desired



Formalin (1 teaspoon): This is harsh-smelling liquid that serves as a

disinfectant in the mixture. When using Formalin, you should be

careful because it is harmful to the skin.



Water: 4 litres

Bowls/containers



A stirring stick (what you will stir your air freshener with)



A measuring device such as a weighing scale or measuring cylinder



Spray bottles



A funnel



Colorant: This is optional and gives color to the mixture. You need

Procedure to make liquid air freshener in Nigeria



The process of making air freshener is very easy. You do not need any

special equipment. Follow the procedure below:

Step 1: Pour water (solvent) and caustic soda pearls into a bowl or

container, ensure you gradually stir to dissolve the pearls.



Step 2: Add Sodium Laurel Sulfate and mix together



Check the pH level of the water to make sure that the acid has

neutralized properly. The pH level should be in neutral stage, that is

between 7 and 8

Step 3: If you have decided to use a disinfectant such as menthol,

vinegar or Formalin, you can add it here



Step 4: Add Glycerine



Step 5: Add perfume or fragrance and stir together



Step 6: Pour your deionized water into the mixture.



Step 7: Continue stirring until the substances are well mixed together



Step 8: Allow the mixture to dissolve for 24 hours and then filter and

package it for sales
