Ingredients needed to make Air Freshener



Caustic soda also known as Sodium Hydroxide to serve as soluble

substance- 1 spoon

Sodium Laurel Sulfate to serve as Emulsifier- 0.5%



Glycerine or Propylene Glycol to serve as Filler or Extender- 10%

Boric Acid or Methyl Paraben to serve as Preservative: 1%



Fragrance such as Lemon or Lavender that aromatizes the mixture and

allows for a pleasant smell: As desired



Formalin (1 teaspoon): This is harsh-smelling liquid that serves as a

disinfectant in the mixture. When using Formalin, you should be

careful because it is harmful to the skin.



Water: 4 litres

Tools needed



Bowls/containers



A stirring stick (what you will stir your air freshener with)



A measuring device such as a weighing scale or measuring cylinder



Spray bottles



A funnel



Colorant: This is optional and gives color to the mixture. You need

Procedure to make liquid air freshener in Nigeria



The process of making air freshener is very easy. You do not need any

special equipment. Follow the procedure below:

Step 1: Pour water (solvent) and caustic soda pearls into a bowl or

container, ensure you gradually stir to dissolve the pearls.



Step 2: Add Sodium Laurel Sulfate and mix together



Check the pH level of the water to make sure that the acid has

neutralized properly. The pH level should be in neutral stage, that is

between 7 and 8

Step 3: If you have decided to use a disinfectant such as menthol,

vinegar or Formalin, you can add it here



Step 4: Add Glycerine



Step 5: Add perfume or fragrance and stir together



Step 6: Pour your deionized water into the mixture.



Step 7: Continue stirring until the substances are well mixed together



Step 8: Allow the mixture to dissolve for 24 hours and then filter and

package it for sales



How to make a disinfecting Air freshener



You can also add coloring such as dye



Essential oil formula for making Air freshener



Ingredients needed

Spray bottle

Alcohol such as vodka or witch hazel

Distilled water

Procedure for making Air Freshener with Essential Oil

Gather the materials and ingredients: Ensure you have the recipes at

hand before you begin. Measure your ingredients. Remember that the

amount of essential oil you put in your mixture would determine how

long its scent will last.

Combine all of the ingredients: You can put the mixture directly into

the container so as to avoid wastage and keep things simple. You can

also experiment by mixing essential oils together.

Using Vinegar to make Air freshener for Home use



When making Air freshener for home use, you can make use of the

age-long Vinegar. Fill a bowl with plain old white vinegar from the

store. You can spray it around your room. The vinegar smell should go

away fairly quickly.



If the smell of vinegar is too sharp or harsh for you, you can try

diluting the vinegar before spraying it. You can put just one

tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water.



The beauty of vinegar as an air freshener is that it doesn’t leave

behind cheap artificial fragrances that can trigger allergies or cause

irritation. Your air is left actually naturally fresh rather than

covered with perfume and chemicals. You can also add a few drops of

your favorite oil such as Lavender to this recipe in order to give it

your favorite scent.
